Effortless car leasing, sharing and driver solutions – all in one app

Project overview

Our team was tasked with designing a mobile application for a customer in Saudi Arabia, focusing on three primary functionalities: Driver, Carsharing, and Easy Lease (car leasing).

Situation

The customer is a large Saudi Arabian company that provides long-term car rental, carsharing and driver hiring services. The company decided to enter new markets, including China and other Arabic-speaking countries. To do this, they collected user data and requested a redesign of the mobile application to make it more modern, improve functionality, localize it to Chinese and Arabic, as well as introduce new features.

Tasks

The purpose of the redesign is to increase usability, unify the design for iOS and Android, improve accessibility and adapt the application to international users.

 

Adding new features: Integration of additional features such as advanced car search, booking management, and an improved vehicle tracking map.

 

Design guidelines: to preserve the corporate identity and adapt it to the best practices of iOS
and Android.

UX Part

In this phase, we conducted in-depth research to understand the unique needs
and challenges of our target users.

Personas

We created detailed personas to guide the design process and ensure the app addressed real user pain points. These personas helped us create
a user-centered design by focusing on their specific transportation needs, ensuring that the app offered seamless and practical solutions for each user group.

Job stories

In the Job Stories phase, we focused on understanding the specific tasks users want to accomplish and the situations they encounter while using the app.
Unlike traditional user stories, job stories center
on the user’s motivation and context, allowing us
to build features that directly address their needs.

Customer Journey Map

We mapped out the entire user experience to better understand how users interact with the app at each touchpoint.
This process allowed us to identify pain points, opportunities
for improvement, and key moments where we could enhance the overall user experience.

Insights after UX Phase

Following the UX phase, we gained valuable insights that informed our design decisions and enhanced the overall user experience

User Preferences

Users expressed a strong preference for a clean, intuitive interface that facilitated quick navigation. This led to the decision to prioritize simplicity
in the design, ensuring essential functions were easily accessible.

Importance of Localization

Given the customer’s goal to expand into new markets, localization became a key priority
for the app’s success. We focused on two critical languages, Chinese and Arabic, to cater
to the growing user base in these regions.

Need for Flexibility

Both personas indicated a desire for flexibility
in transportation options. Users like Ahmed valued
the ability to switch between carsharing and leasing depending on their immediate needs, prompting us
to emphasize multi-functional capabilities within
the app.

Desire for Seamless Booking

Users wanted a frictionless booking experience,
with minimal steps required to secure a vehicle.
This insight led to streamlining the booking flow,
making it quick and straightforward.

These insights allowed us to refine the app’s design, ensuring it aligned with user expectations and delivered
a smooth, engaging experience.

UI Part

In the UI phase, our focus was on creating a visually appealing and user-friendly interface that aligned with the insights gathered during the UX phase.

Chauffeur

The chauffeur functionality allows users to easily book professional drivers for their transportation needs.

Users can select from various vehicle options, schedule rides in advance, and receive real-time updates about their driver’s location and estimated arrival time.

The user-friendly interface enables seamless communication with drivers, allowing users to adjust pick-up points or share specific instructions effortlessly.

Carsharing

The carsharing functionality offers users a flexible
and cost-effective solution for short-term vehicle access. Users can browse available cars nearby, view detailed descriptions, and check availability in real-time.

The booking process is streamlined. This feature supports various rental durations, from hourly to daily, accommodating the diverse needs of users.

Additionally, integrated payment options ensure
a hassle-free transaction process, enhancing user satisfaction and encouraging repeat use.

Easy Lease

The Easy Lease functionality simplifies the long-term car leasing process for users who require a vehicle for an extended period.

Users can explore a range of leasing options, including different vehicle types and lease terms tailored to their specific needs.

The app provides detailed comparisons of available leasing plans, enabling users to make informed decisions. With easy online application submission and document management, the leasing process
is streamlined, reducing the administrative burden on users.

Arabic Localization

The app was fully translated into Arabic, taking into account cultural nuances and preferences.
This localization not only included language translation but also adapted the interface design to support right-to-left (RTL) text orientation, ensuring a seamless experience for Arabic-speaking users.

Key elements such as menus, buttons, and prompts
were carefully reviewed to ensure clarity
and relevance, enhancing usability for users across
the region.

and context-specific terminology.
